Medical Societies in Summit County Unite
In August 2007 after months of work between councils of the Medical Society of Greater Akron (MSGA) and the Summit County Medical Society (SCMS), the two societies merged, giving the medical community in Summit County one unified and stronger medical society.
While we have maintained a relationship with the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) a resolution was passed at their 2011 annual meeting allowing physicians the opportunity to decide their own level of participation in organized medicine. Physicians may now belong to only their county society, only to the state society or continue to belong to both.
County dues are only $150 annually and, in a continuing effort to provide more benefits for our members, we have begun networking with the other county societies in Northeast Ohio to find benefits that would be more advantageous to our doctors. One of the greatest benefits we've discovered is DocBookMD. It's completely encrypted, HIPAA compliant and allows society members to communicate electronically about their patients.
